The historical society of Rivière-du-Loup was founded november 17th 1965. "Let’s remember" was adopted as its motto. The society became inactive in 1973, was revived in November 1986 and became incorporated on September 11th 1987.

Following the merger with the Centre d’archives régional de Rivière-du-Loup, on September 18, 2023, it became the Société historique de Rivière-du-Loup.As a non-profit-making society, it’s aim is to encourage people to remember, discover and share their local history.
